Nigeria
Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has seized jewellery including wristwatches worth over £2 million from former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.
Diezani is facing several corruption allegations, including her involvement in the missing $20 billion oil proceeds from deals executed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
The former oil minister was interrogated by police in London in 2015 when the United Kingdom National Crime Agency arrested her on allegations of bribery and money laundering. She was granted bail by the Westminster Magistrate’s Court after seizing her passport and £27, 000.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari vowed to trace and recover public tax money and finances that have been stolen from the oil sector. He also promised to prosecute those caught engaging in such malpractices.
